Supported Education Services

Choosing the right school or training program may be one of the most important decisions one can make when trying to reach an employment goal. All factors must be considered when choosing a school or training program such as:

  • Curriculum
  • Accessibility
  • Accommodations
  • Transportation

Through Supported Education Services, SWI works with clients to successfully attain the skills and education needed to reach their chosen employment goals. Working one-on-one with each client, a skilled SWI advisor assists the client in identifying all viable schools and training programs that provide the education needed to achieve the employment goal of each client. Advisers then work with the client to identify a proper school or training program that meets the needs and wants of the client.

DSC_0602Once the client chooses a program or school that best meets their needs, SWI advisers work with the client to collect and fill out all necessary paperwork to register and gain admittance, test placement for class assignments, and establish advisor connections. This includes identifying and applying for all possible funding sources for their education such as federal Pell grants, scholarships and private grants that are often required to be in order shortly after gaining admittance to the school or training program.

In order to successfully participate in the education and training process, the client may need accommodations and assistive technology to fully participate. SWI advisers  work with the client to identify and contact the school’s disability resource center to obtain any necessary accommodations. SWI advisers also work with the client, and their RSA counselor, to coordinate any disability related services the client may need such as assistive technology evaluations.
