Southwest Institute is dedicated to supporting people with disabilities in empowerment, advocacy and knowledge.

Who Are We?

Southwest Institute for Families and Children is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Phoenix Arizona that specializes in working with families and individuals with disabilities. Since 2001, SWI has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities by providing advocacy trainings, education, and support to individuals and organizations on both the local and national level.

A world where people with disabilities are equal members of an inclusive society.

 

What Are Our Values?

We believe people with disabilities should be accepted as equal members of an inclusive community.

 

We believe people with disabilities should have the right to make well-informed independent decisions and have the opportunity to take personal responsibility of their lives.

 

We believe people with disabilities should have equal access to information and opportunities so that they may successfully achieve their goals in all aspects of their lives.

 

We believe that we should champion the accomplishments of people with disabilities, promote their skills, and strengthen their needs in order to advance their standing in the community.

Advocacy trainings for people with disabilities and their families
Supported education and career exploration for vocational rehabilitation clients
Voting rights trainings
Disability rights and responsibilities in the workplace
Disability etiquette and sensitivity trainings
Self advocacy organization development and technical assistance
